Welcome to Praxis

Praxis is a music practice app built to keep the whole rehearsal loop in one place: your library, playlists, charts, playback, looping, remote control, and MIDI. The goal is simple, fast practice without bouncing between separate tools.

What Praxis Is Good At

  • Organizing songs into folders, playlists, and tags.
  • Keeping lyrics and tabs attached to each song.
  • Building a predictable queue from the Library view you are already looking at.
  • Repeating sections, skipping around, and adjusting tempo or pitch while you practice.
  • Using PDF Scores for sheet music and manual timestamped scrolling.
  • Controlling the app from the keyboard, MIDI, or Praxis Remote when you do not want to keep reaching for the mouse.

If your score can be exported as a single-page PDF, that is usually the best fit for Praxis. Custom page sizes in the rough range of 8.5" x 20" to 40" can make the document scroll more naturally without page breaks.

The Main Areas

  • Song Library: import songs, organize them, and decide what should play next.
  • Playback and Player: focus on playback, queue navigation, markers, tempo, gain, and lyrics/tabs.
  • Lyrics: write and format charts, notes, and text tabs.
  • PDF Scores: add PDF sheet music and place manual scroll timestamps.
  • MIDI: map hardware controls and insert MIDI cue data for songs.
  • Praxis Remote: control Praxis from a phone or tablet when your computer is not the best place to stand.

The Player also has on-screen controls for queue collapse, markers, speed, gain, and volume if you prefer clicking over memorizing shortcuts.

Why The Queue Matters

Praxis keeps playback tied to the Library context. What you are viewing is what you will play:

  • All Songs means the full library.
  • A playlist means that playlist.
  • A folder means the songs from playlists in that folder tree.
  • A filtered view means only the visible songs.

That rule is the backbone of the app. Once it clicks, most of the rest of Praxis feels natural.
