Getting Started

This page is the first practical walkthrough. It assumes you already know the app opens to Quick Start and jumps straight into the actions that make Praxis useful on day one.

The Fast Path

For your first session:

  1. Import a few songs.
  2. Make one playlist.
  3. Put those songs in the playlist.
  4. Open the Player by double-clicking a song.
  5. Use playback, markers, and the queue to practice one section at a time.

You do not need a finished library to begin.

Import Songs

Start with File > Import Media Files....

  1. Choose one or more audio files, or a folder that contains songs.
  2. Praxis copies imported media into its managed library so the files stay stable even if the original location changes later.
  3. Imported songs appear in All Songs and are ready to organize.

Praxis does not yet support dragging Finder audio files or folders directly into the Library.

Make One Playlist

Create a playlist from the File menu or the Library context menu, then drag songs into it.

  • Use folders when you want structure.
  • Use playlists when you want a practical song list.
  • Use tags when you want a loose cross-cutting label.

You can always refine your structure later. For the first run, a single playlist is enough.

Learn The Queue Rule

Praxis uses the current Library view as the queue source.

  • All Songs: full library, or the filtered subset if you are filtering.
  • Playlist: the playlist you selected.
  • Folder: songs from the playlists inside that folder tree.
  • Tag: songs carrying that tag.

This is one of the most important ideas in the app: what you are looking at is what you are about to play.

Open The Player

Double-click a song in the Library to open the Player at that song.

From there you can:

  • play and pause
  • move to the previous or next song
  • skip backward or forward by your configured step sizes
  • repeat a section or the current song flow
  • change playback speed
  • change track gain
  • adjust master volume
  • show or hide lyrics tabs

If Helix Simple Pitch is enabled, you can also open that control from the Player or the Song menu.

Useful First-Time Habits

  • Keep your first playlist small.
  • Use the filter box to find songs quickly.
  • Set markers on one song before trying to build a bigger workflow.
  • Come back to the Library as often as needed; Praxis is meant to move back and forth between organization and playback.
