Live Events and Notifications

Publisher live status, supported streams, DVR and Go Live, transition alerts, and live-to-archive expectations.

Coming soon. Passage has not been released. This guide previews the current development version; controls and availability may change before launch.

Find a publisher’s live event

Some Podcasting 2.0 feeds advertise live items in addition to ordinary episodes. Passage can present the publisher’s event status and available listening or content links. A publisher’s live status is the source of that information; Passage does not turn an ordinary downloadable episode into a live broadcast.

Open the event to inspect its details and choose a supported stream. Video or unsupported content may need an external destination. Stream availability, geography, credentials, and the publisher’s server can affect playback.

DVR and Go Live

When a stream exposes a usable seekable window, Passage can offer DVR seeking and Go Live. The visible window belongs to the stream: some broadcasts have little or no rewind history. Go Live returns near the available live edge rather than promising zero-latency delivery.

Ordinary episode seeking, ad analysis, and Gap Reduction should not be assumed to apply identically to a live stream. Controls depend on the active source’s capabilities.

Live-to-archive behavior

Passage includes handling for publisher transitions from a live event to an archived item. This depends on valid status and source information. A changed publisher URL or an unfinished archive can still require another selection or retry.

Live notifications

Live Events notifications are optional. Passage establishes an initial baseline so an event already live when first seen is not treated as a brand-new transition. It suppresses these alerts while the app is open and avoids notifying repeatedly for the same already-live state.

Enable the preference and allow notifications in the operating system. Background scheduling and network access affect when an event can be discovered; this is not a promise of an instant alert at the broadcaster’s start time.

CarPlay

Supported live listening can appear in CarPlay with concise event information. Configure feeds and notification choices before driving. Read long event descriptions, external discussion, and publisher pages on the phone or Mac when appropriate.
