Passage in CarPlay

Prepare listening, use persistent speed and sound panels, and understand device-local playback and hardware limitations.

Coming soon. Passage has not been released. This guide previews the current development version; controls and availability may change before launch.

Prepare on your phone

Follow shows, build playlists, choose download policy, and finish the audio downloads you need before connecting to CarPlay. A synced follow or playlist is not proof that the phone has downloaded its files. CarPlay uses the phone’s library and playback context.

The CarPlay experience offers concise library and playback interactions intended for the car. Long transcripts, detailed rules, metadata editing, publisher pages, and purchase decisions belong on the phone or Mac.

Playback controls

CarPlay exposes supported transport and playback settings, including all 18 speeds from 0.8× to 2.5×. Sound controls include independent Voice Enhance and Volume Leveling switches. Gap Reduction choices are represented in the interface, but current Release availability remains subject to the development restriction described in its guide.

Settings panels keep their rows in place while you make selections, so you can compare settings without reopening a panel for each change. Use CarPlay’s existing back chevron to leave a pushed playback, speed, or gap-level screen.

Settings scope

The phone’s shared playback coordinator applies the relevant global or show profile. Confirm scope when changing a show’s settings. CarPlay is not a separate cloud library or an independent queue on a second device.

Supported podcast handoff can offer a resume position, subject to matching-audio checks. Smart Seek behavior depends on available local analysis and should not be treated as universal ad detection.

Connections and output changes

CarPlay behavior can differ between wired and wireless connections, head units, and operating-system versions. Simulator navigation checks do not establish every physical route transition. Physical listening, disconnect/reconnect, interruption, and vehicle testing remain part of Passage’s release qualification.

If playback disappears, check the phone’s current audio source and selected output, the vehicle connection, and whether the episode is local or requires a network. Reproduce detailed setting changes while parked and include the head-unit/vehicle and connection type in a support report.
