Chapters, Transcripts, and Episode Information
Navigate timed text and chapters, choose languages, inspect publisher metadata, and understand offline document availability.
Coming soon. Passage has not been released. This guide previews the current development version; controls and availability may change before launch.
Start with Episode Information
Episode Information brings notes and supported publisher metadata together. Depending on the feed, it can include credits, people, places, season/episode labels, chapters, soundbites, license information, support links, social discussion links, chat details, value information, and alternate audio sources.
The publisher must supply this material. Empty metadata does not need an empty panel, and Passage does not generate a transcript or infer guest credits just because an audio file exists.
Seek with chapters
Open the chapter list and select a timed entry to move playback to that section. A chapter can carry artwork or an external link as well as a title. A link opens publisher-provided context; seeking changes playback position.
Remote chapter documents are loaded with bounded requests and caching. If the publisher moves or removes a document, the chapter list may fail independently of the audio. Imported audiobook chapters use the book’s own local source/chapter model.
Read a transcript while listening
When a feed advertises supported transcript documents, open Transcripts and choose the available format/version and language. Timed cues can seek playback; follow-playback behavior keeps the active cue in view. You can stop following to read another passage and return to following later.
A transcript without usable timing is not equivalent to a seekable word-by-word map. Text accuracy belongs to the supplied document. Passage’s transcript reader does not mean every show has captions or that all listed formats provide identical timing.
The shared reader includes retry handling and accessibility behavior for VoiceOver and Reduce Motion. Current implementation does not establish a comprehensive accessibility certification across every screen and device.
Offline expectations
Downloaded audio and remote documents are separate resources. Open the chapter or transcript document while connected if you want it available from cache. Bounded caches are not a promise to retain every version forever.
If a transcript is missing, check the language/format choices and try Retry. If it opens but does not seek, confirm it contains timed cues. If the audio plays but chapters fail, report the document URL or public episode details separately from the audio issue.
Soundbites and external context
Publisher soundbites can expose playable highlights. Funding, social, license, and content links can leave Passage for another provider. Chat metadata does not create a built-in chat account, and value metadata does not automatically enable payments.
