SetupSmith Troubleshooting
Resolve microphone, pitch, capture, measurement and backup questions.
No pitch appears
Allow microphone access in the device’s Settings, return to SetupSmith and play a single sustained string. Reduce nearby noise, mute other strings and place the microphone where the instrument can be heard. With an audio interface, check the connection and selected input channel.
Audio was interrupted
Calls, Siri and other audio activity can pause the microphone. Return to the tuner and use Resume listening if necessary. After changing a cable or input route, allow the restarted input to settle before capturing.
The displayed octave differs from the target
The displayed detected pitch is separate from the target. After an open capture, stop the ringing string and play the requested fret. Capturing resets pitch tracking, so the next capture needs a fresh stable window. A wrong note or octave cannot qualify as an in-tune target. Report persistent octave errors with the instrument, string, tuning and audio-input details.
Capture is unavailable
Tune open within the capture range and allow the pitch to stabilize. Fretted and harmonic stages require the requested note in the expected octave. Do not retune between the readings of one round. If tuning drifted, choose Retune & Restart This String.
A stage asks for a recheck
Earlier adjustments can affect later stages. Existing measurements remain visible, but accepted intonation is reopened when relief, action or tuning changes. Retune and take fresh readings.
A measurement disappeared after changing frets
Values from different fret locations are not directly comparable. Changing measurement frets confirms and clears the affected stage’s measurements and personal targets. Save a reference or export a backup before changing locations when you want to retain the old values.
Backup import failed
Choose a JSON file exported by SetupSmith, under 10 MB. Unsupported future versions and invalid measurements are rejected before import. Keep an untouched copy of the original and contact support if a valid export will not import.
A fixed layout needs more space
Use the stage item picker for one task at a time. Long guide text and comparisons are available in separate reading sheets. For unusual device, orientation or accessibility-text combinations, send a screenshot with the installed build.
