Guided Instrument Setup
Record relief, action, pickup height and final checks with useful recheck behavior.
Relief
Tune first. Hold or capo the lowest string at fret 1 and hold it at the last fret. In playing position, measure the gap between the string bottom and the chosen relief fret, normally fret 8. Follow the instrument maker’s truss rod instructions. Never force a resistant rod.
Action
Retune and remove the capo. With the string open, measure from the fret top to the string bottom at the chosen action fret, normally fret 12. Record each string separately. Adjust the bridge in small increments and retune. Fixed-saddle alterations deserve a technician.
Measurement frets and targets
Set defaults in Settings, or choose Measurement Frets in the active setup’s header gear. Fret locations stay with the setup and its saved target. Changing an active location clears the measurements and personal targets for that stage after confirmation. Previous values from another fret are not compared. Generic starting suggestions apply to relief at fret 8 and action at fret 12; they are not manufacturer specifications.
Enter a measured value directly or use the plus/minus controls. Units convert the display without changing stored precision. Personal targets and previous values are references rather than newly measured values.
Pickup height
Hold the last fret and measure from the pole piece or cover, as the maker specifies, to the bottom of the string. Record bass and treble sides separately. Skip when there are no adjustable magnetic pickups. Manufacturer guidance and your ears take priority.
Final Check and rechecks
Play across the neck using normal pressure and picking. Record buzz, action feel, choking and intonation feel, then add optional notes. The app suggests stages to revisit based on your answers; this is not a mechanical diagnosis.
Changing relief or action preserves later measurements but clears intonation acceptance and flags completed downstream work for rechecking. New intonation rounds require fresh reference captures after physical adjustments.
