Following Podcasts
Follow all episodes or create several named, rule-based follows from one publisher feed.
Coming soon. Passage has not been released. This guide previews the current development version; controls and availability may change before launch.
A show and a follow are different
The show is the publisher’s RSS feed and its catalog. A follow describes which episodes from that show belong in a particular part of your library. Follow All Episodes when you want the complete show; use Matching Rules when you want a selected stream.
Passage can keep more than one follow for the same show. For example, “Daily Briefing” might include titles beginning with “AM Update,” while “Long Conversations” includes episodes longer than 45 minutes and excludes trailers. These follows share a publisher but can serve different playlists and download needs.
A named follow exists inside Passage. It does not create a publicly hosted RSS feed or change what the publisher distributes. Two follows can match the same episode; they are not separate copies of the publisher’s show.
Create a useful follow
Open the show’s follow controls, choose the all-episode or matching-rules mode, and give a rule-based follow a name that describes its purpose. Add rules, save, and inspect the resulting episode list. Start with one simple title rule before layering conditions.
On Mac, follows appear beneath the show in the sidebar. Select a follow to reach Edit Follow or Edit Rules; Manage Follows gives another route. The phone exposes follow management within its show interface. Existing follows can switch between all episodes and rules while retaining their identity and playlist references.
Give each follow an appropriate policy
A news follow can download automatically and keep a small set of recent episodes. An interview follow can remain manual. Named follows can use their own episode limit or the global default. Show-level settings also provide policy defaults; inspect the effective setting rather than assuming every follow uses the same value.
Playback customization belongs to the show. Named follows let you organize episode selection and follow policies; they are not independent publishers with separate source audio.
Use follows as playlist sources
Add a follow as a dynamic playlist source when you want future matching episodes to appear. Add an individual episode when you want to keep a deliberate selection independent of future rule changes. Editing a rule can change which episodes a dynamic source contributes.
Unfollowing removes that show’s dynamic contribution to playlists. Individually added playlist episodes are retained. Review playlists when reorganizing follows, especially if one show has overlapping rules.
If the follow looks empty
Check whether you selected All Episodes or Matching Rules. Inspect exclusions first, then Any versus All include behavior, spelling, and publisher-supplied duration. Some feeds only publish a recent catalog, so Passage cannot find archived episodes that the feed no longer contains.
