MIDI Messages

MIDI messages are how MIDI Set Lister attaches live control data to a song. When a song is selected, the app sends its messages in order so your rig changes with the set list.

Supported message types

Program Change

Use Program Change (PC) to select a preset, patch, program, tone, or scene on connected equipment.

Control Change

Use Control Change (CC) to toggle a feature or set a MIDI-enabled parameter to a specific value.

Channels

Each message can use the default channel from Settings or a channel chosen for that message. Use the default when most equipment listens on one channel; override it when a message targets another device.

Message order

Messages are sent in the order shown on the song. Drag them to arrange the sequence. For example, you might select a preset first and then send the parameter values that modify it.

If a song produces the wrong result, verify the destination, channel, message values, and order before changing the set list.

Testing

Use Test MIDI in the song editor to send the song's complete sequence immediately. Test with the same destinations and physical connections you will use live.

Web Control also includes Test MIDI. The browser asks the iPhone to send the messages through the destinations configured in MIDI Set Lister; the browser does not send MIDI directly.

Good habits

• Keep the sequence as small and clear as possible.
• Use song notes to record unusual device requirements.
• Test one song at a time while building a new rig configuration.
• Re-test after changing a default channel, cable, interface, or destination.
