Getting Started

MIDI Set Lister keeps a global song library, organizes songs into sets and gigs, and sends the MIDI messages attached to a song as soon as you select it.

Home screen

The home screen shows the current gig, its sets, and the songs in the selected set. Tap a song to select it and send its MIDI sequence. When you switch gigs or sets, the first song in the new selection becomes active and its MIDI is sent automatically.

Songs

Open Menu (☰) > Songs to add, edit, or delete songs. Each song has a title, optional notes, and an ordered list of MIDI messages. Notes are useful for the key, artist, or performance reminders.

Use the + button to create a song. Add Program Change (PC) or Control Change (CC) messages as needed, drag them into the required order, and use Test MIDI before adding the song to a live set.

Gigs and sets

A gig is a performance, event, or rehearsal. Each gig contains one or more sets, and each set contains songs from the global library.

Open Menu (☰) > Gigs to create a gig, add and name sets, add songs, and drag sets or songs into performance order. Use Menu (☰) > Select Gig… to change the complete home-screen set list.

Theme

Open Menu (☰) > Theme to choose from the available dark, light, and high-contrast palettes. The selected theme is saved automatically and is also reflected in Web Control.

Import and export

Open Menu (☰) > Import / Export to create a complete backup or restore one. A backup contains the current songs, gigs, settings, and theme and uses a filename such as MIDI Set Lister 2026-09-29.midisetlist.

Use Export Gig… while editing a gig to share only that gig. The Settings > MIDI > Export MIDI in Gigs option is off by default, so bandmates can import the set structure while keeping their own MIDI. An imported gig matches songs to the recipient's library, lets the recipient review uncertain matches, and creates songs that are not already present.

Importing a complete library backup replaces the corresponding data currently on the iPhone, so export a fresh backup first if you may need to return to the current setup. Importing a shared gig updates or creates only that gig and its setlists. See Import and Export for details.

Settings

Settings control the app's overall behavior:

• Header: Show the gig name, the time, or custom text in the home header.
• General: Allow or prevent duplicate songs in a gig or set, show song numbers, and prevent auto-lock.
• Confirms: Choose which destructive actions require confirmation.
• MIDI: Set the default channel and choose whether shared gig exports include MIDI. An individual message can override the default channel.
• Sorting: Sort gigs alphabetically or by date and songs alphabetically.

Web Control

Open Menu (☰) > Web Control, turn it on, and enter the displayed address in a browser on the same local Wi-Fi network. Web Control can manage songs, gigs, sets, themes, settings, backups, and shared gig packages. Every change saves automatically on the iPhone and stays synchronized with the app.

Web Control is available while MIDI Set Lister is in the foreground. It automatically resumes when you return to the app. Test MIDI commands from the browser are sent by the iPhone through its configured MIDI destinations. See Web Control for the complete guide.

Before a performance

1. Select the correct gig.
2. Confirm the order of every set and song.
3. Test the MIDI for each song with the actual connected equipment.
4. Confirm the default and per-message MIDI channels.
5. Enable Prevent Auto-Lock if the iPhone must remain ready throughout the set.

Once the setup is verified, selecting the next song is all you need to do during the performance.
