Troubleshooting
Resolve common library, playback, scrolling, MIDI, Remote, and archive problems.
Start with the section that matches what you are seeing. Most Praxis problems can be narrowed down without moving or deleting library files.
A Song Is Missing
- Return to the Library and clear the filter.
- Check whether you are viewing All Songs, a playlist, folder, or tag.
- Remember that the current view also defines the Player queue.
- If an import skipped a file, confirm its type is supported and review the duplicate or Praxis Free limit message.
Playback Or Output Is Wrong
- Open the Output menu and confirm the intended audio device is selected.
- Check master volume and the song's saved Gain setting.
- Check the song's saved Speed and Pitch settings.
- Switching output devices stops playback and resets the song to the beginning by design.
Lyrics Or A PDF Does Not Scroll Correctly
- Confirm the song duration is available.
- For text lyrics, review the timestamps and any
[offset:...]tag. - For a PDF, enter Edit mode and review its timestamp positions.
- Percent-based scrolling uses the Wait and Finish values in Settings > Lyrics when no timestamps exist.
MIDI Is Missing
- Use Settings > MIDI > Test MIDI to confirm that an output is visible.
- Check the Default Send Channel and any explicit
@channelsuffix. - Confirm the active lyrics or PDF tab contains the MIDI plan you expect.
- Load messages fire when the song is selected, Play messages when playback begins, Stop messages when playback stops, and timed messages when playback crosses their timestamps.
- If you imported MIDI from lyrics into a PDF, later lyrics edits do not alter the PDF copy; import it again to replace the plan.
- For incoming control, confirm the listen channel, CC mapping, and trigger mode.
Praxis Remote Does Not Connect
- Open Praxis on the Mac and enable Settings > General > Allow Remote Control.
- Put the iPhone and Mac on the same local network.
- Open the connection button in Remote to choose the Mac or enter its address manually.
- If Praxis requires a pairing token, enter the exact same token in Remote.
- A VPN, guest Wi-Fi isolation, or firewall can block local discovery even when internet access works.
An Import Or Export Is Incomplete
- For a portable
.praxbackup, leave Include media files enabled. - A reference package contains structure and metadata but may not play on another Mac without the original audio.
- Praxis imports usable items from an incomplete package and reports missing files afterward.
- Keep a recent full-library
.praxexport somewhere outside Praxis's working folders.
